Subject: CSS-Online-Masters-2003/04 begins today!

Author: CLiebert

Date: 06:52:12 12/11/03

It will be conducted in a special tournament room on the Fritz8 Playchess server
(www.schach.de). Most participants are using the Fritz8 interface, which allows
he engines to play automatically online. The tournament will go on until March.
News, results and games will be constantly published in the CSS Online Masters
room of the Playchess server and on this site.

There are 36 participants in 6 groups of 6 programs which were entered by users.
Level: 60 minutes per game + 15s per move (fisher-clock). 20 programs will
qualify from the first round. Each group will play a double round robin, which
means that each program will play 10 games. In the next round there will be 4
groups of five programs each. Once again they will play a double round robin,
i.e. 8 games for each program. The first and second of each group play four
games in the quarterfinals against each other. The winners play the semifinals
and the finals.

Last years winner was Christian Goralski (Gandalf6), Stefan Kleinert (CM8000)
got the title 2001/02. Will Gandalf6 defend its title? A lot of Players are
using latest engines with the very best hardware so the Masters will be the
strongest computerchess-tournament ever played. A lot of brand new beta-versions
will play, some of them for the very first time in public - Fritz8 Graz, Goliath
X, Aristarch X, List X, Yace X or Quark X!

The frist game Fritz vs. Deep Junior starts in two hours from now!

Have fun!

Christian Liebert
