Essentially, the rules have evolved over the years. Volker Richey, who has put *SIGNIFICANT* effort into CCT has increased the required amount of automation. I think the Jonny incident in WCCC 2003 would suggest that that is a good idea. So in the past, it has been legal to *manually* play in CCT. This is no longer acceptable - essentially, you now have to find a way to play that: (a) is completely automatic. (b) allows your program to kibitz its search information as it plays. I think the community at large (ie the community of chess programmers) believes that this is not an unreasonable set of requirements. Andrew
