I strongly suggest that you reconsider and enter with or without a book.
Tinker has played in CCTs without any book (although a few
years ago).  What happens during the tournament, at least for me,
is that you really focus on how your engine plays.  I always find
bugs and a fresh list of things to work on.  There are even some cases
where I wish Tinker was playing without a book too.  You can also
adjust your time controls to play somewhat faster during the first n
moves.
