Hi Yup, the 3D will affect strength. Say, the 3D calculating+displaying takes 50% of system resources, then the resources left for the rest of activities including chess-calculating is 50% of the system. That's a balance you have to make, say in interval of nodes before doing another refresh. But you'll always lose some for the chesscalculating, over a simple or no GUI. But in the case of Fritz..losing 50% in speed will hardly cost any strength, (<50 elo?) and especially when you play against it yourself, you won't notice anything at all..and if I were you I'd choose maximum graphics. :) Have a look at Neurosis for a free (also "true")3D chessprogram..
