What "3.2GHz" cpu do you speak of?  A P4?  If so, yes, you would see a nice
speed up even on 32-bit apps, chess or non-chess.

It's still a bit of an expensive upgrade at the moment, however.  If you are
truly interested in the FX chip, wait a bit for production to shift from 940pin
(which is the Opteron's territory) to 939 pin.

Once this happens the motherboards will be cheaper, include more features, and
not require the more expensive registered ECC ram.
