Hi Terry,
while I do not own the award winning "Fritz & Chesster," chesbase's kiddie
product with a beautiful adventure theme, I have used the demo for its german
language cousin from chessbase, "Fritz and Fertig."
The demo comes as an extra on one of the recent Chessbase Magazines-- I did not
pay anything for it. It is a visually beuatiful product that most likely
deserves the new media awards it has one. I must mention however that there is
something idiosyncratically german about the look and feel of it -- in case you
think that will alienate your niece. Visually, Chesster's father is quite round
in a circular way--reminds me of some old german cartoon strips. Also, about the
'Black King'-- I am not personally comfortable with his design ( which is why I
have not recommended the product to others) with his dark pointy beard and
crooked nose, he conjures up certain ancient memories in me of a particular kind
of hatred. i won't go into it here-- and I am sure it wasn't intentionally drawn
upon but it shows what happens when one scratches surfaces.
best regards- Marc
