You might try posting this to forums (or emailing someone) of distributed
computing groups, as well as some of the hardware sites that have forums. I
remember that someone posted a message to the forums at www.anandtech.com and
they started a team for the Chess Brain project and got a whole lot of
participation (they are currently ranked #3). Sometimes you can get someone who
will run the thing on their top of the line machines at work during the night :)

If you had some way of automatically updating a stats webpage on your site every
so often (maybe once an hour or something), I bet you would get more
participation. People are more willing to do something like this when they can
see their progress (even if it's progress towards nothing important, like
chess).
