I've never seen Fritz & Chesster... but I'll give my opinion on chess for
children: Teach them chess as early as possible.

I taught my son chess when he was 4. When he was 5 he had his first game against
a grandmaster (Lubomir Ftacnik). He's now 17, and he's a better player than I'll
ever be. Nothing beats training by a child's own father (or mother).
