Is it true to say now, that computer hardware and cpu's has already past its main peak of activity, and has recently been impreoving only very slowly now? I used to feel that nothing can stay new for long, and that every 2 years, my equipment was intollerably out of date. But it looks to me now that after 3 1/2 years, from which time I bought my AMD 1.4 Ghz. thingfs havn't reached that "out of date" stage yet. I don't mean that there is not much that CAN be done, but that consumers aren't looking for too much more any more. (I heard that software is more active). QUESTION: When is the best time to get what I will happily consider to have been well worthwhile, and what is it? I want to get an upgrade to my Athlon 1.4 Ghz. And, I want it to be a lap top. I want it for chess, and all general uses and good printing (mainly copying from web etc.), and scanning. Also for audio (and video?) uses. I want the best there will be in ten weeks from now. Advice appreciated! S.Taylor NB. Not only that, but I will also want to get in 10 weeks from now (if money is available then) the best Palm, and also MD recorder. Any one knows what will be best then, and at sensible prices (i.e. not something which will go down 60% very soon after)?
