I looked, and looked, and then looked again, but couldn't find it. Then I
finally understood that your sentence omitted the important word "system". So it
is a "free chess database system". Without the "system", I assumed you were
referring to the free chess database that was available on the former SCID
website, some 500,000 games. Shane promised to update that database almost a
year ago, but instead it has simply disappeared from his website. I use
Chessbase and am only interested in his database of games, which apparently is
no longer available. I tried SCID but didn't like it. I prefer something which
is better integrated with windows as a single program, not a bunch of separate
modules. Of course his system works if you can master the quirks and nuances,
which wasn't very easy for me.
