could you tell us,

Hi Terry
as you correctly pointed out, Hagener and Glazier released their first
dedicated chess computer in the early 1980's
it was 1980 and was called the "MEPHISTO"..soon after.. releasing the Mephisto
II(1981)
both were hand-held portables with an LCD display and key-in move entry system
you needed a seperate chess board to play a game (unless of course you can play
blindfold chess)
the Mephisto I played at about 1250 ELO

The Mephisto II could be attached to a wooden auto-sensory board or a plastic
auto-sensory board.both of which were quite expensive for US-CANADA buyers
