After all, there is the very natural wish to make a little profit. There is the distributor Niggemann who wants to get his share; there are costs for advertising etc. IMHO, you can't really compare this new, little project with ChessMaster, which is being sold in huge numers all around the world. Of course, they can offer it cheaper. Neverthelesee, the price is still comparable to those of the ChessBase products although they come in far larger numbers too.
