Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like simple layouts. Winboard is my very favorite. I think a true Windows interface would be nicer. But the real beauty of Rebel 10 is in its play. The board should communicate position clearly and unmistakeably. I agree there is room for improvement on the interface. But certainly not the enormous issue it is made out to be. I like it much better than any of the hideous 3-d interfaces that Chess companies like to waste time on. I think that CM5500's 3-d interface, though a Win UI, is far worse than Rebel's offering. Fortunately, CM5500 does have one nice 2-d readable setup you can choose. Would you rather watch Kasparov play Anand on a $1.95 plastic chess set, or two five year old's play using burnished metal on an onyx board? So my point is interface has value. But not nearly so much as ability. So interface might be a deciding point if all other factors were equal. Usually they are not. All that having been said, the best looking, most useful and useable chess interface in the universe is Winboard/Xboard -- hands down.
