This might well be a _very_ local problem on my side, but I remember a message here from someone who had problems with databases screwing up in ChessBase 8. I received my 2004 copy of Big Database, and installed it to hard disk. Setting it as reference database, I found out it returned wrong games, and a number of games that's way too low. Also I suddenly had a problem with the database in which the game was stored I was searching for. Problem = database kaputt. After various attempts of copying and re-copying Big 2004, I tried "integrity check" returning an unrecoverable error in the headers. (cbh) So I copied the whole database into a new empty one, and set that as reference database. It asked me with the first search to create a search booster (the *.cbb-file) After creating it, the new database worked fine. So I decided to delete the orgininal booster file of my Big 2004, and let CB8 create a new booster file. After that my problems were gone. The faulty cbb-file is on the CD. Again, it can well be a problem with _my_ copy of Big Database 2004, but maybe more people encountered problems. In that case it might be a speedier solution than returning your CD-Rom, and maybe get another one with a corrupt booster file as well. I saw no visible damage to my CD-Rom. (On the pro side: finally ChessBase added English names to the opening key, it's not only the Eco code and moves, but now with all possible names (up to subvariations)) Again, FYI and FWIW. Happy chess. J.
