It depends on you program, of course. In my case maybe 10-20%

No, but in many cases it is just as fast anyway.

The compiler can also use MMX/SSE/SSE2 instructions without the hacks from the
processor pack. Improved floating point ops, which might not help for a chess
program.

Another advantage is that the 2003 version is very close to being Standard C++,
so you can avoid lots of ugly hacks needed for VC6.
