Engines play differently than humans, depending on the speed of the computer a 1+1 time control is enough for an engine to play better than just moving quickly and trying to keep its queen. When I first started engine matches I ran on a 200 MHz computer and I recall GMs playing matches against Fritz 3 ~ Fritz 5.32 at the 5 0 time control. Modern day computers running Fritz at 1 min + 1 second would produce better moves than Fritz did at 5 mins for the whole game on a P200. I understand your point that 10 mins games would be more informative (if you are interested in that time control) but 1 min game performance still has interest and the games won't be that poor. Some might still argue that 40/2 hours is a better time control to use but it all depends on what time controls you are interested in.
