Even X86 gives a 1 cycle penalty for accessing a byte, and I'm pretty sure Sun/Itanium/Alpha/everything else gives much more. The reason I switched is that I ran out of bytes: Zappa stores piece type, capture type, promote to, init and final squares -> 5 fields. anthony P.S. are you going to show up at CCT6?
