In a future version of Rebel, to take an example, I would be less
interested in stronger play than in options for a more sophistated
game analysis (i.e. choice of candidate moves, best second move, etc.)
and most of all, more options to help a player develop his chess
abilities and understanding while playing the program, i.e. a coaching
option that would warn a player if he makes a tactical or positional
mistake. However, this is rather hard to implement effectively in
a chess program.

Among other things, an option to weaken the program's playing
strenght by limiting its book depth would be very useful; It's not
easy to try to beat Rebel, even if it is set at 1200 ELO, when it
still can use grandmaster knowledge in the opening... :-)

                                 Regards,
                                            François Bertin
