I already have Ruffian 1.0.1 but I found that 1.0.0 did much better in an engine tournament than 1.0.1. I need to run more tests. At the moment I am running an engine tournament between Ruffian 1.0.0 vs Fritz 8 on an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 1 GIG DDR SDRAM Game 30 (No increments)Hashtables set at 256 MB Ponder Off Both using the Fritz 8 opening book. At this very moment Ruffian thinks it is winning as white with a +-(2.93)evaluation while Fritz 8 thinks it is behind by only +-(1.62) Earlier on Fritz 8 had it as almost even, while Ruffian had it as +-(1.50). Now the game is won by Ruffian K+R+p+p vs K+R. Is Ruffian 1.0.0 really that good in comparison to Fritz 8 or is this only because I am running the test on the same computer rather than identical computer vs identical computers? I always thought that having ponder off, even though it off for BOTH engines, affects some engines more negatively than others. I believe that Ponder on is an integral part of some programs. All views on this would be greatly appreciated. Brian
