This is a very good idea. Remember when the Mephisto Vancouver stand-alone
chess board computer cost over $6000.00? Well, now you will have a machine that
is perhaps 600 elo points stronger and costs 1/12th as much. Not bad, since the
cost of everthing else has dddddoubled!

You can play music on your in room CD-player and listen to shortwave and local
broadcasts, both TV and radio. If this is not enough, then you can hook up an
independent satellite TV dish and watch foreign channels. The idea of having a
discrete device to play chess and other games with is excellent. Just keep
buying because it is good for the industry and it tends to bring down the prices
of new devices.

The bottom line is.. You don't need a computer that can do everything!!!! I
have friends who own five or more assorted computers and link them up to one
another. The best part of owning a separate chess computer is the low cost of
replacing it if it craps out. Maybe if the price for complete systems goes down
to $400.00 inclusive of monitor, guys like Mr. Steve Schwartz of ICD will begin
selling stand-alone chess computers in earnest.
