Crafty used to get about 20-30% faster (raw NPS) by enabling SMT and then using
mt=2.  The last time I tested it, this had dropped, due to some changes we had
made for NUMA that actually made it faster on Intel as well, and by making it
faster (read fewer cache misses) it seems that SMT has dropped off a bit, to the
10-20% range.  This turns into an actual time-to-ply speedup of 7-14% faster.
Of
course, you should measure it on your hardware with the current version of
Crafty
to see what recent changes have done.  I don't test this very often.
