Thanks for the suggestions, but I think that you are arguing the merits or lack
of, for a correctly working pruning algorithm. I would like to get to the point
where I can do some experimenting to see what I find with my program.

There must clearly be something wrong with my implementation as I seem to have
invented reverse pruning :-)

I cannot see what the mechanism is for the nodecounts generally increasing with
pruning. I can see that it is due to the beta cutoff rate worsening, but I
cannot see how the pruning of a move could explain that. I was hoping for some
insights into that peculiarity.
