:-). I was expecting more specific answers (many thanks also to Bob and Henrik),
but your range seems to be pretty accurate.

As I expect that you probably own Deep Junior and Shredder too, how do the
numbers look for them?

But the general answer is already given I suppose, HT really isn't very
important when it is about engine speed.

I was considering to get another computer for Christmas mainly but not only for
chess purposes, but I have to find a somehow reasonable argument to do so ;). I
already own a speedy XP2600+ that I got last year - it still looks decent now,
so it seems it was a good buy.

What's the cool thing to get these days ( in a reasonable prize range)? Is there
anything twice as fast as the XP2600+ already? Sorry for my ignorance - I am not
well informed when it is about hardware development.

My own little research came up with the Athlon 64 3200+ - but it probably is not
that much better - I remember some posts by GCP that showed it might still be
great for some chessprograms though.
