I have Shredder. Lost Junior. LOL

HTing is pretty stable between programs...it's position that makes the numbers
fluctuate. In any program, you'll see a 0% (and I have seen positions were
HTing is no faster than using a single thread) to 25% speedup. 20% would
generally be would I would bet on.

SMT does not = SMP, for sure. But it still squeezes out a little juice. For
what Intel calls 'free'.

A 2600+ is still a damn good computer.

A dual 3.06Ghz would do it, but you've already seen those prices. A dual 2800+
AMD would get you about 2.5M nps in Crafty, but you'd have to build it yourself.
Still a damn good buy for a lot less than 3,000 Euro. (And be >2x faster than
your 2600+ in ANY SMP engine!)

Look at my list from a thread a few days ago...some of these numbers are
guesstimates, as Mike would say, 'you're mileage may vary'. But I think they
are fairly close. These are of course Crafty numbers...

Athlon 64 FX51 (2.2Ghz) = 1.64M nps
Opteron 2.2Ghz = 1.64M nps
Athlon 64 3200+ (2.0Ghz) = 1.50M nps
P4 3.6Ghz = 1.48M nps
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (2.2Ghz) = 1.45M nps
P4 3.2Ghz Extreme Edition = 1.37M nps
Opteron 1.8Ghz = 1.35M nps
P4 3.0Ghz = 1.23M nps
