So you are never watching any sports onto television nor olympic games (even when running the shoes matter and with ice speed skating the skates matter some too) and especially never watch car racing. Reality is that the coolest thing in the world is that everyone shows up as he wants. If you are too lazy to carry a computer with you nor remote connect to a fast machine, that is your problem. If a company prevents you from getting faster hardware at an event, bring your own or remote connect to israel. The only fun thing is open hardware events. No one would care for deep blue when it was only allowed to run at a P133 of course. The fastest single cpu in 1997 was a 633Mhz alpha chip (experimental) when overclocked it ran at 767Mhz. The only interesting thing in computerchess is the difference in approaches and the open hardware that is possible. You don't say against a racing team: "you must use an engine all from the same manufacturer". This is the fun of formula 1 race, of indy car racing. That is why so many spectators watch that type of racing and why so many less are interested equal car races. Note that even in equal car racing, mechanics manage to get engines run faster and to get better tires especially than their competitors. But no one watches it anyway. They watch the formula 1 or in USA they watch the indy car too. Paris - Dakar would not be interesting when we only would be allowed to run on a bicycle. Motors, trucks, cars, it doesn't matter! You show up with what you got and race with that in the desert!
