Fritz 8 doesn't find the Mate in 4. He finds a Mate in 7 and stops searching, even in so called "infinite" analysis mode. This is a well known bug. On my Pentium III-733 Junior 8 needs 26 seconds. Quite a long time for Mate in 4, isn't it? Shredder 7.04 needs only 2 seconds. But the winner is the tactical monster Fritz 5.32, who finds the mate in 1 second: Analysis by Fritz 5.32: 17.Qxe7+-- -+ (-3.28) Depth: 1/7 00:00:00 17.Qxe7+ -+ (-3.28) Depth: 1/7 00:00:00 17.Rxe7+! -+ (-1.50) Depth: 1/7 00:00:00 17.Rxe7+ Qxe7 18.Bxd7+ Kd8 19.Qxe7+ Kxe7 µ (-1.37) Depth: 1/8 00:00:00 17.Bxd3! µ (-1.16) Depth: 1/8 00:00:00 17.Bxd3 µ (-0.97) Depth: 1/8 00:00:00 17.Rf8+! = (-0.09) Depth: 1/8 00:00:00 17.Rf8+ Rxf8 18.Bxd7+ = (-0.09) Depth: 2/8 00:00:00 17.Bxd7+! ± (0.72) Depth: 2/9 00:00:00 17.Re1! ± (0.75) Depth: 2/15 00:00:00 1kN 17.Re1 Qb6+ 18.Qxb6 Kxf7 19.Qxb7 +- (2.69) Depth: 2/17 00:00:00 3kN 17.Re1 Qb6+ 18.Qxb6 Kxf7 19.Qxb7 +- (2.69) Depth: 3/17 00:00:00 4kN 17.Re1! +- (3.00) Depth: 4/11 00:00:00 7kN 17.Re1 Qb6+ 18.Qxb6 axb6 +- (4.78) Depth: 4/17 00:00:00 8kN 17.Re1! +- (5.09) Depth: 5/16 00:00:00 17kN 17.Re1! +- (5.41) Depth: 6/20 00:00:00 35kN 17.Re1 Qb6+ 18.Qxb6 axb6 19.Rexe7+ Kd8 20.Rxd7+ Kc8 21.Rc7+ Kd8 +- (5.53) Depth: 6/21 00:00:00 38kN 17.Kh1! +- (5.56) Depth: 6/25 00:00:01 134kN 17.Kh1 dxc2 18.Re1 c1Q 19.Rxe7+ Qxe7 20.Qxe7# +- (#4) Depth: 6/28 00:00:01 416kN
