If you can grab an Abit NF7-S V2.0 (with the Nforce2 Ultra 400 chipset). Fast, inexpensive and loads of options to play with. As far as the CPU goes.. if you don't plan on overclocking go for a non-barton Athlon XP 2800+ (166/333fsb) CPU. This runs 2.25GHz and is faster for chess than any other Athlon XP. If you are going to overclock get the fastest Barton CPU you can afford. Try looking on newegg.com for some good deals. They're a great company and won't screw you around like many will. Also, if you do plan on going with another company look them up on www.resellerratings.com first that way you can see if you're getting a decent company or not.
