I think b) is a valid statement.

Also a) is valid but it depends from what do you mean by "than most people
think".  In my opinion if Deep Fritz 7 played on 1200 MHz too, it would win
easily.

The main question is what engine is better:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
a) An engine A of 1999 with two years "code" improvement(so engine A in 2001),
playing on hardware of year 1999.

B) An engine A of 1999, playing on hardware of year 2001.

That means: a 2-year hardware improvement or a 2-year code improvement is
more important?

In my opinion there is no clear answer, because it depends on the engine A and
the improvement on hardware.
