Not so with Fritz 8 (8.0.0.23) This may be the case with 8.0.0.8 also, but that engine has yet to find the mate at all it this position. !! This time it found the mate in 00 :05:16 .... then when I forced it to move, it began the evaluation all over again from the new move on. Very TIME CONSUMING If you force the first few moves of this mating in 29 sequence, then Fritz starts to find the mate quickly, but it seems to flucuate from mating moves to just winning evaluations and then back and forth. Then it plays mates in less than 29 by not giving the best replies for Black. Brian
