I think the Pentium-M is more or less an enhanced PIII architecture with larger
internal cache and higher clock frequencies. (remember: PIII/1 GHz was already
about 1.5 GHz P4!)

As far as I know, a Pentium-M with 1,7 Ghz compares well with a P4/2.8-3 Ghz in
chess (and also with other applications).
