I just remembered something.  [ Surprise, surprise! : ) ]

Fritz and other engines have training and/or friend modes which offer a useful
feature.  Whenever you make a really dumb move, the chess-playing program tells
you "are you sure you want to play that move?" and then you get a second chance
to solve the position without first seeing the solution.  That seems very
valuable to me.  In essence, you are given "instant feedback" whenever you err.
I like that.  The only thing missing is the ruler which comes out and smacks
your hand across your knuckles whenever you blunder!  : )
