If you are fairly technical and computer literate, then get Crafty and Winboard.
 If you are not get Arasan.  Crafty+Winboard plays the meanest game, and Arasan
is the easiest to set up and use.  Try a web search.  KK's list is a great
reference.  The freeware programs on the Gambitsoft site are worth a look.
Commercial programs are something else you should think about.  There are some
incredible programs under $100.
