Try to remember a rating is not static, it is subject to constant change. As more people duke it out with a program, the functional equivalent of a "true rating" will change appreciably. Also, ratings are not stratified by "position type", which is a human notion. Recall the concept of "anti-computer" play has been with us quite a while. Each subsequent generation of programs tries to whittle away at this problem using different technologies (opening books steering clear of closed positons when possible, encouraging the trading of pawns and bonuses for open positions, etc.) It is possible to make a statement such as "Program X plays Opening Y like a complete patzer". But, in the vast sea of legal chess positions out there, you are talking about a very, very, very small percentage.
