As chess programmers become interested in writing playing programs for chess variants like Gothic Chess, the body of knowledge about this technology will expand. On can look only a little ways into the future and see game programmers, formerly chess programmers, producing playing programs for a variety of games only vaguely similar to chess. In the more distant future, today's chess programmers may be revered as the "fathers" of a very important new far-reaching set of technologies. Who knows? This today's chess engines may be the early precursors to real thinking machines as in Asimov's science fiction books. : ) Bob D.
