You took the words right out of my mouth. I think Bob is very far removed from
the average Joe, and I don't mean he is different, but perhaps doesn't realize
how much ignorance is still the norm. I still get questions from friends all the
time on the lines:
Friend: "Albert, my computer is running slow, what could the problem be?" (this
is by far the most common one)
AS: "Could be a number of things: Lack of memory, processor speed (I avoid hard
terms like CPU), or something else. Depends."
Friend: "If I erase some programs, will this give me more memory?" (and yes,
I've gotten this more than once)
In fact, one time I went to help a friend, and it turned out her computer was
quite decent, but was bogged down with 5 instant messaging programs, lord knows
how much spyware/adware junk, and further cutesy crap. The latter items were
because whenever she got one of those Gator (for example) pop-ups to install
crap, she didn't know what to do and just clicked Ok all the time. Etc, etc.
