He says that after many years of working he's determined that god put him on earth to basically be the sand in his managers' vasoline. He didn't phrase it that way, but his way may actually be more offensive ;-) My grandfather actually had hundreds of patents related to petrochemicals and processes. He was listed on one related to the production of penicillin, turns out the one of his demulsifiers worked well for this process, but I think that they filed for the patent just to establish prior art so that nobody else would be able to patent it.
