It is really a problem in Crafty. I have, for years, had it display all shallow "mate" scores. The reason is that in bullet ICC games, I get log files with no info due to the "noise" setting. And I can't tell whether it is winning or losing when it gets into EGTB games. Unfortunately it is possible for it to find one mate and switch to a draw egtb move, but the mate gets displayed while the draw does not because it doesn't satisfy the noise limit. It always _plays_ the correct move, but the log file and analysis window doesn't always show the right thing. I have fixed this.
