I would move 17...Ke5 instead of g5. Here is what Yace shows after this move (I
looked at some variations, but not too carefully - the engine however remembered
the variations I looked at).
After 17...Ke3:
278126560 5:28.8 0.67 24t 18.Kg2 Kd4 19.Kf2 g5H 20.Bf1H b3H 21.Be2H g4H
22.Kg3H Ke3H 23.Kxg4H Kd2H 24.Kf5H Kxe2H
25.Ke6H Kd2H 26.Kxd6H e3H 27.Kxc5H e2H 28.d6H
e1=QH 29.d7H Kc1H {HT} {-841}
284368352 5:37.1 0.67 24. 18.Kg2 Kd4 19.Kf2 g5 20.Bf1 b3 21.Be2 g4 22.Kg3
Ke3 23.Kxg4 Kd2 24.Kf5 Kxe2 25.Ke6 Kd2 26.Kxd6
e3 27.Kxc5 e2 28.d6 e1=Q 29.d7 Kc1 {HT} {-841}
All variations I tried seemed to end in Q+B (no pawns) vs Q (with pawns). Q*B vs
Q is rather drawish. The score of 0.6 is just a typical score that Yace will
give in such a situation. Note, that the PV might not be very reliable (too much
of the PV was fetched from transposition tables). It is basically the same in
the post of Peter. However, I think your line was indeed winning later, but
White got wrong there.
After 17...g5 I get:
22247059 31.812 6.95 24t 18.Bf1 Ke5 19.Kg4H Kf6H 20.Bg2H Ke5H 21.Kxg5H
e3H 22.Bf1H e2H 23.Bxe2H Ke4H {HT}
This is a rather significant score (+7).
How would you follow up after 17...Ke5?
Regards,
Dieter
