I would also like to have a notes section that can be expanded upon by authors and/or fans. It would be fun to have pictures and even other media things included. There is a purpose behind the collection. I plan to create a SQL database and an interface that chess programs and interfaces can use. Right now, when you add an engine to a system like Arena, you are expected to type stuff in by hand. It's pretty much begging for the introduction of lots of errors. And in Winboard, you have to read the notes from 200 chess authors to set things up correctly. Then heaven help us when we download 25 new updates because (you guessed it) expanding those zip files just wrote over top of all our old ini files so carefully crafted. Also, when you want to set up parameters, you have to store them over and over in lots of ini files. UCI has solved the problem for some parameters. But still you are required to know what the parameters are and how to use them. The horrible rat's nest that is called "Current chess interfaces" really got me thinking. There is no open standard that is anywhere close to adequate for operation of chess data collection and storage. No wonder the commercial systems have not adopted any of the existing interface standards. All of them are pitifully and woefully inadequate. I propose that a database can be created to store these parameters. The database and its structure will be free for everyone to use. I won't charge one dollar for it. Nor will I patent it. ;-) I hope to exand the system over time to include opening book and other enhancements.
