That's sad to hear for all the checkers fans out there. (I played a few games of Chinese checkers during Xmas - kind of another variant :) That won't happen with chess though, since regular chess is so much in people's head and the community around it is very strong and organized already. Every change to the existing rules immediately move it to "chess variant" already, whereas in Checkers, it seems it wouldn't be a variant but still checkers. (with local rules) Sargon
