Like the Grünfeld black gets pressure on the centre. And and a half open file.
But unlike the G. black has more central pawns than white. And the white pawn on
the half open file is backwards and blocked.
The black central pawns are very versatile:
They can either stay put. Effectively robbing white of any forward outposts.
As well as enabling black pieces to use them if white advances. As well as
granting black a relatively safe harbour in the centre. Thus enabling a wait an
see strategy until white castles.
The d pawn can advance and create a favorable IQP or French position.
The e pawn can advance immobilizing the white centre and take away key
squares. While controlling the d5 square. And then play around the centre on
either the king side or the queen side. Or even push d5 breaking the white hold
alltogether.
