If there are 10 strong programmers writing engines for this, then each has a 1:10 chance at getting to try to beat Ed's program for the 10k prize. Also, I expect that Ed will have improved his program a fair bit by the time of the final match. So estimate that a strong programmer entering this has a 1 in 15 chance of getting $10k and conclude that they certainly aren't doing it for the money. Angrim
