Subject: Vortex vs. Angel Program

I played another game against the Bill Angel CapaGNU program, this time letting
his program search a minimum of 8 plies for each move (it took 4-6 minutes per
move on my 2.8 GHz P4) just to see if search depth would help.

Very early in the game CapaGNU allowed its Archbishop to be traded for a Bishop
and Knight, a very bad trade, and Vortex went on to win without too much
difficulty.

Another thing I noticed: when CapaGNU first sees that it will be mated in N
moves, it will just make any legal move that results in it be mated in 1.

This game will be posted to...

...later today.

Based on the very early results so far, here is how I would rank the programs.

1. Gothic Vortex
2. Gothic Vortex with Reinhardt values
3. TSCP Gothic
4. Capa GNU
5. Zillions
