I am understating things a bit, but not that much. You can easily find 20 or 30
free Winboard
or UCI engines which are stronger than Gothmog. I like to think that Gothmog
has a more
entertaining style of play than most of the stronger engines (though of course I
am not a
very objective observer), but on the other hand the Windows version is almost
completely
untested by me and therefore likely not to be very stable. I don't (yet) want
to recommend
it to a wide audience.

Thanks, they are certainly a lot better than for my earlier versions.

I guesstimate Gothmog 0.3.1 to be about 200 points weaker than my current
version.

Yes, SmarThink is extremely good, and has a very nice style of play. It is my
favorite engine at
the moment, and I am trying to implement ideas similar to Sergey's in Gothmog.

I think I was lucky to obtain the 7-13 result against SmarThink, though, Gothmog
would
certainly have lost by a bigger margin in a longer match.

Yes. This bug fix is the main difference between 0.4.4 and 0.4.5.
