I have been playing online about a year now, and Vortex is completely new, of course. I prefer to duke it out using my own brains :) For example, I can let Vortex think forever and it would not play some of my moves, especially from this game... http://www.GothicChess.org/gotm.html Even the sacrifice made on move 28 is still too deep for the program to see. The game of Gothic Chess has a very high branching factor, so I would expect people to still have the advantage over computers. But, if you think about 'the rule' -- is one that cannot be enforced really a rule at all? And also, this is a "postal" tournament, not real time. This will always favor the human! Anyone remember how Mike Valvo sacrificed a piece against Deep Thought in a postal game and won, despite a reported 33 ply search depth?
