Crafty has some code in evaluate.c that is disabled by default. To turn it on, the compilation has to be done with -DDETECTDRAW. I do not run with this enabled, and it seems that ChessBase doesn't enable it by default either. Several here have compiled Crafty with this turned on for testing against such cases...
