Hi Michel, In my experience I found that PVS works best with better move ordering, so it may be worthwhile to do a fixed 3 ply search full width with the PVS off, then turn on your PVS and use the better ordering. I seem to recall experimenting with different depths with the PVS on/off, and for the checkers program we do 11 plies full before turning on PVS. You might want to experiment with that.
