 My experiences with Java GUI programming resulted with a thorough disgust of
Swing. It is a resource hog. And does much to entrench the Java equals slow
opinion. As well as having a cluttered API. The Eclipse SWT is much more
polished, well behaved and friendly.
 As for a preferred paradigm for GUI programming I would contend that a
functional implementation is cleaner than an OO one. It does away with most any
modal crap that drive users to distraction.
