What OS are you using, if windows which version? I had a similar problem before in which I was not able to install Hiarcs6 under Windows 98. So the way I fixed the problem was to format the hard drive with DOS 6 or higher, then install Hiarcs 6. Afterwards, you can install your Windows 98. Note that if you want to use the -x in Hiarcs to access upper or extended memory, you will need to create a Windows 98 boot up disk and boot from this disk, otherwise the -x will not work at all, you will get an error message.
