Hello, I am new here, but I read a little about chess software before. My question has to do with programs ability to tell if the position is slow (closed pawn mid game, technical endgame with "waiting" moves etc.) or sharp (open positions of king's gambit, fried liver etc.). Now pruning and other move filters that work well in some positions will not work well in others. So, reason I bring this up is my Fritz 8 has these settings and to me it looks like they are constant through the game, opening to endgame. Can programs adjust these to suit the need of the position, and if not why not? Of course there are special cases and special cases of special cases, but still it might be a good try to improve play.
